Style Talk with Emanuele Favarin: Mustaches, British Tweed and Life in London

For Emanuele Favarin, style is a combination of his Italian roots and London everyday life. Born in Tuscany, he has lived in London for the past eight years, where as Style Curator of a British heritage tailoring brand he combines classic sartorial elegance with a contemporary view of menswear. A distinctive mustache, a sizeable collection of sunglasses, British tweed and loafers instead of sneakers make up his style, and his philosophy remains simple: choose classics, invest in quality and enjoy small rituals, from espresso from a moka pot to a Toscanello cigar on a leisurely walk.
We spoke to Emanuele for the latest fall edition of our #StyleTalk series. Here's what we found out.

Can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
Emanuele Favarin: My name is Emanuele. I'm originally from Tuscany, Italy, but London has been my home for the past eight years. I work in the world of luxury menswear as a Style Curator for a British heritage tailoring brand, where I combine classic sartorial elegance with a contemporary perspective.
How do you usually start your day? Do you have any rituals or habits that you never skip?
“I wouldn’t say I have an elaborate routine, but like a true Italian, my morning starts strictly with a fresh, aromatic espresso that I brew at home in a moka pot. When I arrive at the boutique or office, there’s always another coffee waiting for me with my colleagues. It’s a simple, shared ritual that sets the perfect tone for the rest of the day.” – Emanuele Favarin
Tell us more about your mustache. Has it ever opened any doors or sparked conversations you weren't expecting?
Emanuele Favarin: I've been wearing a moustache since I moved to London and over time it's really become part of my identity and my personal signature. It's definitely a great conversation starter, both in my career and on social media. It brings a subtle vintage charm and a dose of character, a little spice that perfectly complements my love of classic tailoring.

How demanding is it to maintain them?
Emanuele Favarin: It's surprisingly simple. I wash them at least twice a day and never skip a few drops of a quality beard or face oil to keep them soft, moisturized, and neat.

What is a good fall jacket for you and is there one that you consider a long-term investment?
Emanuele Favarin: For me, nothing beats British tweed. I'm a huge fan of classic shooting jackets. They're a real shield against the fall and winter weather, effortlessly protecting you from the cold, rain and wind. The rich textures and unique patterns are simply unmatched. If you're looking for exceptional craftsmanship, Chrysalis Clothes England is a brand I truly admire and recommend.
Emanuele is an avid collector of sunglasses and has amassed a sizeable collection over the years. Although he doesn't stick to one brand, his first pair of high-end frames were the classic Moscot Lemtosh, a model that laid the foundation for his personal style and the way he builds his everyday outfits around glasses.

What is your favorite shoe style and which brands do you always return to?
Emanuele Favarin: I practically never wear sneakers, so loafers are my absolute everyday choice. Over the years I have invested a lot in good footwear. Dunhill offers magnificent models of footwear, and for fantastic quality at a more affordable price Myrqvist is a safe choice.
When it comes to watches, Emanuele has always had a soft spot for Cartier. The classic Tank in yellow gold on a rich brown leather strap is hard to beat. Lately, however, he has been fascinated by IWC : the mechanical precision, the mechanisms and the clean, architectural design language of this house leave him, as he himself says, speechless.
Which brand do you think deserves more attention for its approach to quality and craftsmanship?
Emanuele Favarin: Dunhill is without a doubt one of my favorite brands. The sophistication of their collections, the impeccable tailoring, and the level of craftsmanship are truly on another level.
When it comes to scents, Emanuele is extremely consistent, or, as he says with a laugh, maybe a little boring. He is drawn to warm, sweet profiles, so any scent with a subtle, sophisticated note of vanilla wins him over at first.

What three things do you never leave the house without?
"Sunglasses, a good lighter and my Toscanello vanilla cigars. There's nothing like a Toscanello with a good espresso during a peaceful walk." – Emanuele Favarin
What timeless wardrobe pieces should every man invest in?
Emanuele Favarin: A dark grey flannel suit, ideally double-breasted. It's incredibly versatile: you can dress it up with a smart shirt and tie or wear it casually with a sweater. Add brown suede oxfords and you have a flawless combination every time.
Is there a hidden gem in London that you always love to return to?
Emanuele Favarin: Richmond has a special place in my heart, especially in the spring and summer. Tucked away in the greenery is Petersham Nurseries , a beautiful greenhouse that feels miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's the perfect place for tea or a relaxed lunch.
What does your perfect day off look like?
"Since becoming a father two months ago, my idea of a perfect day has completely changed. Today, a slow, relaxed walk through the neighborhood with my daughter is an absolutely perfect day." – Emanuele Favarin

What three books would you recommend to every modern man?
Emanuele Favarin: If I had to single out three key titles on classic style, tailoring and horology, I would recommend:
1) Gentleman: A Timeless Guide to Fashion, by Bernhard Roetzel. A true bible of classic menswear, tailoring, and wardrobe basics.
2) A Man & His Watch, Matt Hranek. A wonderful insight into horology through the personal stories behind iconic watches.
3) The Suit: A Modern History, Christopher Breward. A fascinating exploration of the sartorial heritage and how the suit became a cornerstone of modern style.
What's currently on your wish list?
Emanuele Favarin: My main goal before my daughter starts nursery is to add two specific watches to her collection. At the very top of that list is the IWC Portugieser Chronograph.
Quick Fire
Espresso or Negroni?
Emanuele Favarin: Espresso macchiato, absolutely!
London or Milan?
Emanuele Favarin: London, 100%.
Tweed or cashmere?
Emanuele Favarin: Tweed, every day, all day long!
Dear Emanuel, thank you for this wonderful interview, congratulations on your daughter and we wish you happiness in the future!
