Montecristo Petit Edmundo: A small but powerful cigar

Montecristo is a name that carries a rich heritage in the world of premium cigars. The brand was founded in Havana in 1935 by the famous H. Upmann factory and quickly became synonymous with quality and sophistication. The brand name is a tribute to Alexandre Dumas' classic novel, The Count of Monte Cristo and reflects the elegance that the cigars strive to provide. Over the decades, Montecristo has become the pinnacle of Cuban cigar craftsmanship, cementing its reputation for excellence despite the changes brought about by the Cuban Revolution.

Montecristo has a really extensive range of cigars, and this time we decided on the Petit Edmundo. It is a compact but robust cigar, known for its rich and intense flavors. This Cuban cigar provides a satisfying experience in shorter smoking, ideal for a short drink of up to 45 minutes.

The exterior of the cigar has a silky, smooth wrapper with minimal veins, providing an elegant appearance. It is very densely filled, which is felt when pulling. Before lighting, the rich aroma of cedar can be felt by the smell and cold inhalation. The cold draw is extremely tight, making it a little difficult to smoke, but gives hints of sweet tobacco and mild spiciness, suggesting a complex flavor profile despite its compactness.

When lit, the cigar delivers a strong kick of pepper and leather, with leather notes being particularly dominant. The smoke is very even and rich, although the draw is tight and requires some effort. Burning is stable, producing solid white ash throughout smoking.

As the cigar moves into the second part, the initial spice calms down, allowing the rich leather flavor to come through more. The draw remains tight, but the even burn and creamy smoke make the effort worthwhile. The first fall of ash appears after about 15 minutes.

In the last part, the tastes of Edmund are further deepened. Leather remains dominant, with the return of pepper and a hint of coffee. While a tight draw remains a challenge, the cool and rich smoke provides a satisfying finish.
