Paris-based designer Lauren Rubinski describes her new boutique, Rubirosa’s, as “a candy shop for adults.” Located on Rue de Grenelle on the Left Bank, the 450-square-foot space is filled with custom ebony-veneered shelving showcasing an extensive spectrum of color. Cashmere sweaters are available in 15 shades, while cotton poplin shirts, pajamas, and boxer shorts come in more than 35 vibrant hues, ranging from soft mint to deep crimson.

Rubinski created the debut collection as a response to the dominance of neutral, minimalist wardrobes, believing customers are ready for something more expressive. According to her, stores have become saturated with black, navy, and striped essentials, while shoppers are increasingly looking for color. The concept has proven successful, with the boutique reaching its projected annual revenue just six weeks after opening in June.

Fashion and retail have long been part of Rubinski’s family heritage. Her paternal grandfather produced tailored jackets and coats for the renowned Parisian house Arnys, whose clientele included figures such as François Mitterrand, and also supplied poplin fabric to the Vatican. Her father, Bruno Rubinski, operated two multi-brand boutiques, one bearing his own name on Avenue George V and another called Wallaby in Saint-Germain, both of which closed around three decades ago. Named after Ralph Lauren, Lauren Rubinski began designing fine jewelry in her early twenties before launching her first brand, Pristine, in 2009.

Her debut retail partner was the iconic Paris concept store Colette. In 2020, she introduced her eponymous jewelry collection, featuring handcrafted necklaces and bracelets made from 14-karat gold, enamel, and diamonds, now stocked by luxury retailers including Net-a-Porter.

Although Rubirosa’s carries accessories such as soft leather loafers, including crocodile-embossed styles, Rubinski deliberately chose not to sell her own jewelry in the store. Instead, her goal was to create a collection centered on high-quality wardrobe essentials offered at what she considers fair prices. She wanted the boutique to appeal to a wide variety of customers rather than a narrow luxury audience. The signature piece of the collection is a menswear-inspired shirt with a straight French collar, available with or without piped trim, with prices starting at approximately $360.

The boutique’s interior was designed by Louis Charles Aka, who envisioned the custom shelving as a “library for shirts.” A striking red carpet runs through the space, chosen to create a sense of excitement and give visitors the feeling of stepping onto a red carpet. While the collection is designed to be unisex, it draws heavily from classic menswear and also includes pajamas. One of the alcoves features heart-shaped keychains, echoing a recurring motif found throughout Rubinski’s jewelry collections.
