Tudor has introduced a new version of its sports chronograph, marking one of the most significant updates since the model was first launched. The Black Bay Chrono 39 “Bumblebee” retains all the core characteristics the line is known for, but now comes in a noticeably more compact case measuring 39 mm in diameter and 13.1 mm in thickness. Compared to the previous 41 mm version with a height of 14.4 mm, the new proportions are clearly more refined and may appeal to a broader audience of chronograph enthusiasts.
While the reduction in size is the main update, the watch also draws attention through its striking appearance. The “Bumblebee” nickname comes from its vivid yellow dial paired with black sub-dials. The hands, hour markers, and aluminium tachymeter bezel insert are also black, creating a strong contrast that enhances the model’s sporty character.

The choice of yellow is unusual within Tudor’s current lineup, but the brand has previously used similar tones in its chronograph history. The new model continues the Black Bay Chrono tradition of bolder executions, following recent versions with pink and blue dials.
The case retains its familiar vintage-inspired sports watch design, but Tudor has managed to reduce its dimensions without changing the movement inside. This is particularly notable as the watch is still powered by the MT5813 calibre, an automatic chronograph movement based on Breitling’s B01 architecture but manufactured and further refined by Tudor’s Kenissi production facility.

Technical features include a free-sprung balance and a silicon balance spring, with accuracy rated at -2 to +4 seconds per day, tighter than COSC chronometer standards. The movement operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of 70 hours.
Tudor has also focused on wearability. The watch comes on a stainless steel bracelet equipped with the T-Fit clasp, allowing tool-free micro-adjustments of up to 8 mm. Water resistance is rated at 200 metres, and the dial is protected by a sapphire crystal.
Although the yellow dial is the most eye-catching feature, many will see the main improvement in the proportions. The Black Bay Chrono has long been considered one of the most attractive chronographs in its price segment, but its relatively large size was a drawback for some. With the new 39 mm case, Tudor has addressed that criticism while preserving the mechanical specifications that made the model so popular.

The Black Bay Chrono 39 “Bumblebee”, reference 79310N, is made of stainless steel, powered by the MT5813 automatic calibre, fitted on a steel bracelet, and is not a limited edition. It is already available at Tudor boutiques and authorised retailers, with a retail price of CHF 5,500.
