Family heritage, craftsmanship, and tradition have been at the heart of Antica Occhialeria for three generations. The story began in 1956 when Lucio Enrico Di Nardo, a passionate collector of artistic objects, started his career as an optician while building a collection of vintage eyewear. Over the decades, the family's expertise was passed down from one generation to the next, gradually evolving into a company dedicated to creating handcrafted, fully personalized eyewear.

Several milestones have shaped the company's journey. In 1981, Antica Occhialeria opened its boutique in Florence, specializing in vintage eyewear from the 1930s, 1950s, and 1960s. A production workshop for cellulose acetate frames was established in 1995, followed by the launch of the company's online store in 1999. In 2003, Antica Occhialeria introduced eyewear crafted entirely from wood. The collection expanded in 2013 with frames made from genuine leather, buffalo horn, and 18-karat gold. This was followed by the opening of the Fabbrica Occhiali workshop and showroom in 2018, and, in 2023, a new boutique in Florence's historic center, just a short distance from Ponte Vecchio.
The company's philosophy is built around the belief that every individual is unique and that eyewear should reflect that individuality. For this reason, every pair is custom-made, with careful attention given to the frame's shape, size, and details so they complement the wearer's facial features and personal preferences. The goal is not simply to produce functional eyewear but to create frames that become a natural extension of the owner's personal style.

This approach combines generations of traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. While the family continues to preserve time-honored handcrafted techniques, it also embraces innovation to enhance both its products and customer experience. One example is an online customization tool that allows customers to design and preview their eyewear in real time before production begins, seamlessly connecting digital technology with artisanal manufacturing.

The creation of each personalized pair starts with a consultation, during which specialists discuss the customer's needs and preferences. Once the appropriate frame shape and size have been selected, customers can choose from more than one hundred color options along with various lens types. Every pair is then handcrafted before undergoing a final fitting and adjustment to ensure optimal comfort and a precise fit.
Antica Occhialeria's vision is to make it possible for everyone to wear prescription or sunglasses that express their individuality. Its mission is to create eyewear that not only enhances personal style but also meets visual needs, offering a combination of comfort, functionality, and refined design for everyday life.
