There are brands that are easy to write about, and then there is Cartier. Here, the industry's standard vocabulary simply doesn't work — there's no point mentioning movement precision, technical tolerances, or water resistance, and it's better not to even start a conversation about secondary-market prices. What remains, once all of that is set aside, is line, proportion, and the idea behind the design. And it turns out that this is the only thing that ever really mattered.
